Description
Nation in making is the first exhibit of "The Spirit of Anzac Centaury Experience" which shows Australia who just became a nation in 1901 to 1914, prior to WW1.
This are some women enjoying a cup of tea. The people arriving were mostly Europeans and people were very supportive of each other.
Federation in 1901 was closely followed by the passing of two restrictive immigration Acts which prohibited non-European immigration to Australia for more than sixty years and had a profound influence on the shape of the nation. These acts were the Immigration Restriction Act and the Pacific Island Labourers Act. A Contract Immigrants Act was passed in 1905. At the same time, the encouragement of immigration was particularly selective, driven by economic and political imperatives and based on firm laws.
