Artist's Description
There are 80 buildings on Cockatoo Island . The range of functional and constructional types includes: • convict era sandstone buildings • steel-framed and clad industrial workshops dating from around World War I • several individual residences built in timber, masonry and stone • brick administration buildings erected during the 1930s • concrete air raid shelters from World War II• masonry industrial buildings constructed during and after World War II • various structures including 40 cranes, several wharves, and the historic pumping machinery, switchboards and rectifiers housed in the Powerhouse.
