Description
70 percent of the bat species worldwide, feed almost exclusively on insects and are thus extremely beneficial. One bat can eat between 600 and 1,000 mosquitoes and other insect pests in just one hour.
“Flying foxes are extremely mobile and because of habitat destruction and more people planting natives in suburban and city areas, flying foxes are moving to cities searching for food,” Dr Parry-Jones said.
In one report I read that they were shooting them in cities, trying to rid of them, which was extremely cruel (and extremely stupid if you ask me) , it took them up to 8 hours to die, and mostly mothers were shot and the babies were left to starve to death !!! Unbe -f*****n-lievable !!!! (pardon the expression) I am totally upset reading that !!! And for 2 reasons, comfort of city people bec bats can be noisy and farmers who lost some trees to them, well they have to eat also, and if we keep stealing their land, we need to accept the consequences !!
Over population and bad planning is the consequence of our wildlife disappearing, including them ! And now we have to pay heaps of money for trying to safe them.
Grey-headed Flying-fox is listed as a threatened species ...
Taken at Centennial park, Sydney !!
Ofcourse half of all profit from this sale will go to their conservation !!!
