Description
The rare bloom of a phytoplankton called coccolithophores creates magical colour in the ocean. Like any other type of phytoplankton, coccolithophores are one-celled marine plants that live in large numbers throughout the upper layers of the ocean.
Phytoplankton use chlorophyll to capture energy from the sun to convert water and carbon dioxide into the organic compounds. Through this process, called photosynthesis, phytoplankton generate about half of the oxygen we breathe.
The beautiful phenomena I seen from Fairfax walk in North Head, Sydney, Australia, near the cliff where ocean enters Sydney harbour.
I am sorry to let you know that this particular lookout has now been close and blocked after recent cliff slide.
