Description
Mahatma Gandhi has come to be known as the Father of India and a beacon of light in the last decades of British colonial rule, promoting non-violence, justice and harmony between people of all faiths.
Born in 1869 in Western coast of India and raised by Hindu parents, he was also strict vegetarian.
He study law and then accepted a position with an Indian firm that sent him to its office in South Africa. Along with his wife, Kasturbai, and their children, Gandhi remained in South Africa for nearly 20 years.
When he came back to India, he became disgusted with the treatment Indians faced by the white settlers. He exhorted his countrymen to observe truthfulness in business and reminded them that their responsibility was the greater since their conduct would be seen as a reflection of their country.
In the famous Salt March of April-May 1930, thousands of Indians followed Gandhi from Ahmadabad to the Arabian Sea. The march resulted in the arrest of nearly 60,000 people, including Gandhi himself.
After the Labor Party took power in Britain in 1947, negotiations over Indian home rule began between the British, the Congress Party and the Muslim League (now led by Jinnah). Later that year, Britain granted India its independence but split the country into two dominions: India and Pakistan.
I personally think that peaceful protests work in some society, unfortunately not in others. When I see protesters rioting in the west I think they should be truly ashamed of themselves, as peaceful protests in the west can work if people unite !!! This man proved that to us !!!
This picture was taken at the wax museum in Sydney.

Excellent lighting and an outstanding capture, Miroslava! Perfectly exposed and processed...I especially like how the shadow toning shows the contours of the white robe! L/F
