Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer and songwriter.
Raised in a deeply religious family, Perry's first experience of performing was singing in church. Her first album, Christian record label, Red Hill, under her name Katy Hudson was a flop. Perry did sign to Columbia Records in 2004, but again this did not prove a success, and she was dropped.
She recorded her album, "One of the Boys" and in the Spring of 2008 released the lead single, the controversial "I Kissed a Girl". The song proved a smash, hitting the number one slot in several countries. Other hit singles followed and the album was a commercial success.
Many awards and music industry records followed. Katy has started her own record label called "Metamorphosis Music" and has signed her very first artist Ferras, who was signed to Capitol Records back in 2007 with Katy Perry.
Perry has a contralto vocal range. Her singing has received both praise and criticism.
Perry has supported various charitable organizations and causes during her career.
Perry is a LGBT rights activist. , feminist and supported President Barack Obama in his run for re-election and praised his support for same-sex marriage. She criticized Australian PM Tony Abbott and also publicly endorsed Hillary Clinton.
