Description
Nearly all the rock around Sydney is sandstone. The sand which became this sandstone came from the Triassic times about 200 million years ago, time of fern, reptiles and the first dinosaurs.
So if you look at the cliffs and rocks of North Head you will see that it’s primarily sandstone with small deposits of shale (fine grained rock composed of mud and minerals) and laminites.
