Description
The Coral Banded Shrimp is a very popular invertebrate that is kept in many marine aquariums. Coral Banded Shrimp are usually found in small crevices or hanging from live rock in the aquarium. Most of their time is spent in hiding and you won't see them walking around very often.
In the wild, this shrimp (Stenopus hispidus) prefers to live in caves and on the bottom of overhangs and will actively clean fish, when presented with parasites.
In the wild it is found in the western Atlantic Ocean from Canada to Brazil including the Gulf of Mexico. In Australia, it is found as far south as Sydney and it also occurs around New Zealand.
This picture was taken at Sea life Sydney at Darling harbour, Australia.
